This is an enjoyable trip to explore the lifestyle of the people on the island, which is a traditional weaving village. The boat trip to the island will take one hour. On the way, you will see the stilted houses, fishing villages, Mekong and Four Faces Rivers. When we get to the island, we will take a Tuk Tuk around the village, so we can see the mango and banana plantations and the different crops that are grown on the island. You will also visit a Silk Farm, Buddhist monastery and the children in a local school (subject to the school schedule that day).

The cruise starts at 8:30am every morning from Tonle Sap to the Mekong and Chaktomuk rivers, where four major water courses meet. During the trip, you can enjoy the view along the riverside with fresh air and the unique lifestyle of people living on the water (floating houses). After having traveled by the cruise for 1 hour, you will arrive at Oknha Tei island. Then, you will continue your trip by Tuk Tuk to see the village school, Pagoda, Kromuon market and farming which people make by season. After that, you will continue to Silk Island, where you can learn how to grow silkworms to produce silk, how to take silk from the silkworm and the loom in the community of Silk Island. The Khmer Rouge turned Toul Sleng High School into a center for interrogation, torture and death. Thousands of photo of victims can be seen in each room. You will walk slowly and investigate the materials used for interrogation of prisoners. After that we travel about 15km toward southwest of Phnom Penh we will arrive at Choeung Ek. The memorial at Choeung Ek just outside Phnom Penh was an orchard! And a Chinese cemetery prior to 1975. During the Khmer Rouge regime, it became one of the killing fields the site of the brutal executions of more than 17,000 individuals, most of whom first suffered through torture and deprivation in Toul Sleng Prison. Choeung Ek is now a group of mass graves and a memorial stupa containing thousands of skulls. Come back to hotel and drop off.

The Killing Fields will bring you face-to-face with the brutal reality of the Khmer Rouge period. It was a death camp where the Khmer Rouge killed around 17,000 of their own people. Most of the victims were also prisoners of Tuol Seng, the former high school, which was transformed into a prison and place of torture. The Killing Fields is located 15km to the south-west of Phnom Penh, and allows you to glimpse into the horrors of this dark chapter of Cambodia’s history. We finish this tour with a cleansing ceremony at a local temple to honor those lost. We recommend this tour for people aged 16 years and over, due to the confronting nature of the Killing Fields. Adults should use their discretion on the ability of their children to deal with this experience.

Pick up from your hotel. En route we will stop at Phnom Praset to see a pre-Angkorian temple from the 8th century and a reclining Buddha. The view from the temples on the surroundings plains and rice-fields is beautiful. Then, we will continue to Oudong where you will have lunch on your own account. Afternoon, visit Oudong which was the royal capital between 1618 and 1866 before the capital was moved to Phnom Penh, several temples and stupas cover three hills. These huge stupas can be seen from miles away and contain the remains of several Khmer kings including King Monivong (1927-1941) and King Ang Duong (1845-1859). The walk up the hill over 500 steps provides an excellent exercise especially the view countryside view. These hills were also the site of some of the Khmer Rouge’s most prolonged resistance against the Vietnamese army in 1979 and a memorial to those murdered by the Khmer Rouge was built on this place.

Phnom Chisor is a historical site located in Dokpor village, approximately 62km from Phnom Penh. It was built in the early 11th century by King Suryavarman and sits on top of a hill requiring visitors to climb 412 steps to the summit. A basic level of fitness is required to undertake this tour. The views alone make the climb worth the journey as it affords visitors a panoramic view of Takeo Province with rice paddies stretching for kilometers. It is framed on 3 sides by buildings of a modern pagoda. Inside the main temple there are Buddhist statues worshipped by the monks and lay pilgrims. An enclosure, partially ruined surrounds the ancient complex. In 1973 the area of Phnom Chisor was devastated by an US bomb attack and rebuilt in 1979.
