Stop At: Banteay Srei, Siem Reap Cambodia

Breakfast at your hotel;
Morning, visit to the enchanting temple of the Banteay Srei, nearly everyone’s favorite site. Banteay Srei was constructed from sandstone, instead of the volcanic laterite commonly used at Angkor, and this material allowed the ancient craftsmen to demonstrate the full scope of their extraordinary stone-carving skills. Virtually every inch of this diminutive temple is covered in carvings of exquisite detail and sharpness. On the way back, drive through village and paddies to Banteay Samre. This temple was constructed late 9th century by King Surayavarman II. Many of its carvings are still in excellent condition. Lunch at local restaurant.

Afternoon, continue to explore to visit Preah Khan temple. It was built by the King Jayavarman VII, Preah Khan, like Ta Prohm, a place of towered enclosures and shoulder-hugging corridors. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain and even improve this situation. Then, explore more at Banteay Kdei. The temple was constructed by Jayavarman VII during the 12th and 13th Centuries (Citadel of the Cells) and used to be a religious monastery. Next, visit to Sra Srang. Explore more at Neak Pean and enjoy sunset
