West Baray by Green Honda Motorbike

Siem Reap Trip Overview

A slower paced tour of rural Cambodia climaxing with time to relax and enjoy the West Baray. Meeting with the locals, monks and photographing energetic school kids is really nice, but to swing on the hammocks overlooking the beautiful West Baray reservoir (or swimming – bring your bathers if you wish to) is a must.

Stop At: West Baray, Siem Reap Cambodia

Detail Schedule:
01:30pm – 02:00pm pick up from your Siem Reap Hotel, Guesthouse or town if continuing from the earlier tour.
02:00pm: We are driven out of Siem Reap to West Baray via the countryside and some villages. First stop is with a Krolanh (sticky rice inside bamboo) making family. Our guide will translate how it made and of course, we can taste it as well. Then continue to ride to the nearby Buddhist Pagoda, here you can learn more about Cambodian Buddhism, interact with the monks, or even participate in a monk blessing ceremony to bring good luck, happiness and prosperity. Upon continuing our ride to other villages, we stop at a local primary school to learn about the education system of government school. If the children are out of class then the resulting photo shoots are a lot of fun. After that we will arrive at the West Baray. About 30-45mins is the time we’ll have in the wonderfully relaxing, natural, peaceful, nice atmosphere huts on the West Baray banks – accompanied by a cold beer (or soft drink). West Baray is a huge man-made lake, dug in 11th century, renovated by Khmer Rouge in 1975-79. Now it has become one of the main water reservoirs for the surrounding areas. Of course it’s really good for locals & tourist alike for swimming and picnics. Ride back to Siem Reap and you will drop off at your hotel around 5pm.
