The Museum is dedicated to the thought and the works of Leonardo da Vinci and it is situated in the old town centre of Venice, Sestriere San Polo, at the Scoletta di San Rocco, in front of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, 100 meters away from the Basilica dei Frari. What laid beneath the Basilica was unknown until 1860, when flooding led an Irish Dominican Roman Catholic priest and archaeologist into the levels beneath the basilica floor. Excavations are ongoing. Today, you can descend up to 100 feet underground over three levels.
